When this master bathroom was added to a Lockeland Springs home in East Nashville in a remodel a few years ago, they were trying to make it luxurious.  It used to be an old back porch and it still has the lap siding to prove that it used to be an exterior wall.  Now it sports a double vanity and a separate shower with a huge jetted tub.

It was a good start, but the homeowners weren’t too thrilled about the vinyl floors.  They were ready to finish the bathroom in style with tile.

My clients told me that the jetted tub has always felt like an awkward feature.  First, because it is raised up so high on a platform that is at window level and it was built with a single tiny step placed right in the middle of the tub skirting which was covered in beadboard.  I wanted to tile the entire thing to help it flow more into the rest of the room and they suggested making the step run the entire length of the tub.  It was idea that worked out great.

For the floor I used 13″ tiles.  They continue up the step to the smaller matching 2″ tiles that outline the top edge and then change to a 6″ tile for the top of the step and the skirt of the tub.  I was really happy with how everything turned out.

I’d say some luxury has entered the bathroom…
