So, just how does a contractor include the “Wow Factor” in their work?  I started thinking about this and it made me chuckle.  In contracting, it’s pretty easy to wow people:

  • Return phone calls
  • Show up to appointments on time
  • Call if you’re running late
  • Get projects done when agreed upon for the price agreed upon
  • Be honest

Pretty amazing, huh?  The above items are what I’d call the bare-bones basics of running a business.  It has nothing to do with the quality of my work, but for some reason it’s unusual for a contractor to actually act like a professional!!  :)

An article from the E-Myth blog is what got me thinking about this.  E-Myth is Michael Gerber’s company that is all about helping small businesses.  ( I highly recommend his books, especially E-Myth Mastery)  Check him out if you run a business of any kind and it will rock your world.
