There are all kinds of new varieties of tile coming on the market. Lately, it seems more people are interested in the ones that look like wood. These clients in Nashville, Indiana, had a lodge-style home full of wood everywhere. It only seemed ‘natural’ to bring it into the shower, right?
Starting out, there was an old bathtub enclosure in the way, so I started by removing that and installing a new acrylic shower base. Even though the floor is not tiled, I still prefer to cover the walls with Kerdi waterproofing membrane, especially the tiled shelves that will catch a lot of water. The kerdi directs it all down the drain where it belongs.
The wall planks came in 6″ x 24″ planks. However, I wanted a little more random look (like a real wood floor) so I cut some of the planks and mixed in some random sizes. I also added a large corner bench, a smaller shelf and mosaic stipe that was made up of stacked river rocks.
