MapleHill03One of the most common projects I do is to turn a plastic bathtub surround into a luxurious tile shower.  This one near Spencer, Indiana is a good example of the shower you can have in a fairly small area.  This shower is only 32″ wide inside the glass enclosure.

MapleHill02This shower features tile from Florim called Afrika-Cairo.  It’s a glazed porcelain that has a lot of variation in it- very similar to a stone tile, making it an attractive choice.  I love that it comes in so many sizes that allow you to mix and match to make some cool designs like that wide accent strip on this wall.  Most of the shower is 12×12 tiles, but this decorative element is made up using 2×2 tiles framing 6″ tiles installed diagonally.  This definitely makes this shower an eye-catching feature that can still be seen through the clear-glass sliding shower doors which are Sterling’s Finesse doors.

MapleHill04Another interesting thing about this shower is the hidden train.  It has a ’tilable’ drain cover rather than a metal grate.  This makes the drain virtually ‘disappear’ into the design, which can be a really cool effect.  Plus, it just lifts out for easy cleaning as needed.
