Clients interested in tile showers are often curious about what I will do to make sure it is waterproof and keeps the water going down the drain.  My answer is Kerdi!  Kerdi is a product from Schluter Systems that comes on a roll like fabric.  It is embedded with mortar to the walls, floor and anything that might get wet including bench seats and recessed niches.  I generally waterproof the entire shower up to the shower head.

This particular shower is a giant 5′ x 10′ room!  I used a little of that space to build a 3′ bench in one corner as well as a deep shelf all the way along the back wall to hold lots of soap and shampoo.  All of it got waterproofed using Kerdi.

I’m a big fan of Kerdi and I use it to waterproof every shower I do as well as tub surrounds.  Now on to the fun stuff- tiling it!
