DoubleShowerTub01There are lots of ways to put together a bathroom.  That’s what keeps my projects interesting, each one is different!  This one was especially unique as it involved installing the tub within the showering area.

Creating a “wet zone” that includes the tub within the shower is not necessarily a new idea, but it does seem to be a trend right now, especially among larger, more luxurious master suites. I would say the idea comes from a more european style where the idea is that the whole bathroom is a wash area.  Often the drain is in the middle of the room, rather than having a separate shower, the whole room can be a shower.

The complication, of course, is making sure the water goes down the drain!  HA!

DoubleShowerTub04In this particular project, I had to build a level platform for the tub legs to rest on, but the then it immediately slopes toward the drain.  The tub is a freestanding variety rather than a built-in so it mainly just sets there and is hooked up to the plumbing.

I used a Schluter Kerdi drain with tileable grate which helps the drain to disappear.  It can be tiled with tile you are using.
